Stockport Council is committed to keeping the Borough clean and green. In order to deliver on this commitment it was decided to bring together a range of cleansing and waste related departments into a single unit: Environmental Services, from 1st April 2007.

The new department has the simple remit of “Cleaner Streets and Less Waste”. In order to form, the relevant functions have been transferred from across the Council and new teams and roles have been devised. The outcome has been the establishment of an integrated service providing a single point of contact, responsibility and accountability for cleansing and waste management in Stockport. Not only should this improve delivery, but it significantly simplifies customer access to getting problems resolved.

The Council felt that placing the recycling, garden, refuse and street cleansing operations with Solutions SK on a long-term basis provided the best value option for what they wanted to achieve.
