Let it Shine

19 Dec 2011

Solutions SK - Stockport Council’s wholly-owned company - has installed a Photovoltaic (PV) power generation system onto the roof of its Endeavour House depot in Bredbury.

Benefiting from the government’s incentives for renewable energy generation, the system will generate an annual income of around £6.5k and supply ‘free’ electricity to the site.
PV panels are made from layers of semi-conducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the panels it creates an electric field across the layers. The stronger the sunshine, the more electricity is produced.

The power the panels generate is measured in kilowatts peak (kWp). That's the rate at which it generates energy at peak performance in full direct sunlight during the summer.  The 39 KW h per annum system installed at Endeavour House has been procured and installed by Stockport Homes on behalf of Solutions SK.

Councillor Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council said: “In Stockport we are always keen to introduce new initiatives to help sustain a greener environment. Solutions SK is making a valuable contribution to this by investing in the solar panels to generate renewable energy. The installation is a clear demonstration of their commitment to environmental sustainability”.
