National School Meals Week had Britains Biggest Lunch

14 Nov 2011

National School Meals Week in Stockport was launched at Brookside Primary School in High Lane.

The School Meals team at Solutions SK - a wholly owned Stockport Council company - worked closely with local schools to promote the week.

Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for Children & Young People, and Mildred Dooley, the school’s longest serving governor with 24 years’ service, launched the week with Headteacher Maxine Holmes and pupils. A roast chicken dinner with vegetables, and a quorn option for vegetarians, was the main meal of the day, with salad and fresh fruit available as always.

National School Meals Week was organised nationally by the Local Authority Caterers Association and promotes healthy school meals. A school lunch helps young people to ‘recharge their batteries’ and be at their best for afternoon lessons. Themes this year included: Get eating, Get travelling, Get creating, Get 5-a-day and Get remembering.

Get Eating Day and Britain's Biggest School Lunch was sponsored by Dolmio and schools can claim a £2 off voucher off a jar of Dolmio sauce - visit www.iloveschoolmeals.co.uk/dolmio Pupils can obtain recipes from the site, with advice and help on healthy eating provided by Change4Life.

Stockport schools took part in the Get Travelling theme during the week. The School Meals team created a menu featuring dishes from around the world.

Cllr Stuart Bodsworth and School Governor Mildred Dooley cut the ribbon to launch the week with, from left to right, Bob Ashley, Head of School Scene for Solutions SK; Headteacher Maxine Holmes, and pupils.
