Stockport Pupils Support Sustainable Seafood

04 Nov 2011

Stockport pupils tucked into a fishy feast to raise awareness of the sustainably sourced fish served by Solutions SK, a Stockport Council wholly owned company.

The Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) launched their new ‘Fish & Kids’ school dining room kits at St Mary’s RC Primary School in Marple.

The new dining room kits were used to highlight sustainable fishing and promote the fish meals by Solutions SK’s School Meals team in 92 schools across the region.

The MSC’s Fish & Kids project aims to give school dining rooms across the country the chance to switch the fish on their menus to MSC certified fish from a totally sustainable source.

In the classroom, using curriculum-linked lesson plans, Key stage 1 & 2 pupils learned about the fish on their plate, the underwater world and the amazing journey that it takes to get from the sea to school.

Nic Cox, Managing Director of Solutions SK, said: “The Solutions SK School Meals team works extremely hard to ensure that pupils enjoy high quality, tasty meals that meet the Government’s Nutritional Standards. They are constantly looking at environmentally friendly initiatives and working with the MSC is an ideal opportunity to continue doing this. “The team has supported the campaign for a number of years as it gives Stockport the chance to put sustainable sourced fish on school menus as well as educating pupils about sustainability.”
