It's a Clean Sweep for the Underbanks
Stockport's historic Underbanks is the first area to receive a thorough clean sweep from a new Council team.
The Town Centre Care & Repair Team is cleaning and improving the medieval streets in the important conservation area. With high quality paving lining the twisting streets and distinctive street furniture and lighting, extra attention is being paid to keep the area attractive.
As part of Stockport Community Pride, the highly visible and responsive team will repair paving on the road and footpaths, replace worn or damaged street furniture, repaint bollards and seating, and improve the drainage.
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for the Environment, added: "The Care & Repair team is part of our campaign to show pride in Stockport. They will go above and beyond the usual cleansing and maintenance to help us all get the best from our town centre.
"Shoppers, residents and visitors can help us by putting litter in bins or taking it home with them to recycle. Together we can make a real difference. Cleaner and safer streets will mean a better quality of life for people living and working in the town centre, and a more attractive area for visitors," Cllr Bodsworth added.
People can report cleansing issues directly to the Town Centre Care & Repair Team, or phone 0845 833 4444. Information cards on contacting the team are available from the Tourist Information Centre, Merseyway Customer Services, Stockport Central Library and Council receptions.
