'Green Machine' Helps Keep Stockport Town Centre Clean
A new street cleansing mechanical sweeper is hard at work ensuring Stockport's Town Centre is kept clean and litter free.
People visiting the town centre may well have seen the new 'Green Machine' at work sweeping up litter from the streets.
The 'Green Machine' is a walk behind mechanical sweeper which is specifically being used in the Town Centre to keep the footpaths and walkways clean. The machine is being used during the day from Monday to Saturday.
The 'Green Machine' sweeper has been brought in to support the Council's Care & Repair team. The Council's street cleansing vehicles are also now cleaning the Town Centre and District Centres during the night, which includes emptying litter bins, cleaning shop fronts and sweeping the roads.
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for the Environment, said: "The Council is working hard to keep the streets of Stockport clean. This new mechanical sweeper is made for the busy town centre streets. The extra cleaning capacity coupled with the installation of new litter bins with a dedicated cigarette disposal unit make it easier for us all to be responsible and not drop litter. Together we can make Stockport an even cleaner and greener place to live, work and visit."
