Quantum of Waste

Mossbank Homes, who own and manage the properties worked closely with Solutions SK and local residents, on the clean up as part of the Stockport Intensive Partnership Sweep.

Mossbank’s Environmental Officer, Ingrid Gaskell said: “Both organisations used professional gardeners to clear away overgrown areas and we filled the skips with over 1.5 tons of waste.”

”Mossbank owns a number of properties in the area and we wrote to all our residents and everyone else in the neighbourhood to see if they wanted to take part in the clean up,” she explained.

“We had a tremendous response. While lots of people couldn’t get involved because they were out at work, it was a great see neighbours who could help, really get stuck in.”

“Many residents threw waste into the skips we positioned around the area,” she said, “they had everything from televisions to settees in them. “

Marian Hallsor, 75, of Heathcote Gardens said: “Everywhere looks clean now, it’s not looked this good in a long time. The biggest thing was that the team put rubbish in the skips for older people who couldn’t move it themselves.”

Mossbank Homes, took over 1100 homes in and around Stockport from Manchester City Council in a stock transfer earlier this year. Local residents have been happy with what they’ve done so far.

Mrs Hallsor said: ”At first all the neighbours were wary about having a new landlord but since Mosscare have taken over they’ve kept the greens in good order, they consult with us and keep us up to date with what’s going on.”

The ‘sweep’ is one of a series aimed at improving the quality of life for Stockport residents, with another one in Bredbury due in November, explained Gloria Thomson, Services Manager at Mossbank Homes..

“It will start with a public consultation meeting held on 10 November and an environmental clean up is due in the first week of December.”
