Stockport shuttle still going strong

The free Stockport Shuttle celebrates its first six months of offering services to shoppers.

Since the launch before Christmas, over 40,000 people have used the free service which runs from the '300' bus stop at Stockport train station every 12 minutes between 8am- 6.30pm Mondays to Saturdays, and between 10.30am-5.30pm on Sundays. Feedback from residents has been positive with many saying what a great asset it is.

Jim McMahon, Service Director for Transport and Planning at Stockport Council said: "Six months on and the Shuttle Bus is proving what an important asset it is to the town centre. The free service is a great boost to Stockport's economy, with the borough's residents and businesses benefiting from easy access to town centre attractions, shops, car parks and the bus station and railway stations."

The bus, which is accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs, stops at the main shopping areas including Merseyway Shopping Centre, Princes Street, Warren Street, Stockport Market, Underbanks, the Peel Centre, and Tesco supermarket at Portwood.

Stockport Council and Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority agreed to fund the free Shuttlebus around the town centre to assist shoppers and tourists. Solutions SK, Stockport Council's wholly owned Company, is responsible for providing the service, linking the town centre, car parks and railway station.
