Press Room12/01/2010 STOCKPORT MARKETS LOVE FOOD HATE WASTE
Stockport Council has teamed up with the Love Food Hate Waste campaign to organise the event on Saturday 16th January, from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
Love Food Hate Waste is a national campaign set up by WRAP (Waste Resources and Action Programme) and supported by the Council. Research shows that 8.3 million tonnes of food is thrown away by households in the UK every year, and most of it could have been eaten. By wasting less, we could all save up to £50 a month. The final of the design a recipe competition organised by the Council's Community Recycling Officers will be decided at the event. The aim of the competition is for people to come up with a tasty recipe made out of leftovers. 40 entries have been received and five shortlisted recipes will be cooked and tasted to decide the overall winner. The winner will win £50 donated by Solutions SK, Stockport Council's wholly owned company. Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for the Environment, said: "This will be an excellent event and I'm very much looking forward to seeing and tasting the recipes people have come up with for this competition. The Council has always supported the Love Food Waste campaign as reducing the amount of perfectly good food we throw away will save us all money and dramatically reduce the damage we do to our environment."
