Press Room20/01/2010 SOLUTIONS SK COMMITTED TO HEALTH AND SAFETY OF EMPLOYEES Solutions SK Ltd, a Stockport Council company has shown its commitment to improving the health and safety of employees. The introduction of new measures to enhance health and safety in school kitchens has resulted in a 50% reduction in the number of slips, trips and falls by employees. Solutions SK developed new and improved cleaning systems and procedures for employees who work in school kitchens after attending a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) workshop last year. The course highlighted a new more effective and safer way to mop floors which the Schools Meals team trialled in an existing kitchen. The new process has now been shown to and adopted by all School Meals teams. The team also undertook floor surveys in over 100 school kitchens, as a result of the surveys some employees were given slip resistant overshoes. The process that the company has gone through has been highlighted by the HSE as a best practice case study for their 'Shattered Lives' campaign. Solutions SK is also in the process of completing its own health and safety training DVD for school caterers, which will form the main part of the induction process and on going training for catering employees. Nic Cox, Managing Director, Solutions SK, said: "As a company we place health and safety at the heart of everything we do, and we continually look to improve our systems and procedures. This case is an excellent example for the HSE to use in their campaign and I am impressed at the way the catering teams have embraced the new changes."
