Local Companies get Public Sector Boost
Solutions SK exhibited at the Meet the Buyer event alongside other public sector organisations in March.
Over 100 local businesses had the opportunity to pitch for work at the event.
The event, organised as part of the Stockport Boost campaign, proved popular with over 270 one-to-one appointments taking place, allowing local businesses to sell their goods and services to public sector buyers.
Meetings were available with a range of buyers from across the public sector including Stockport Council; associated companies NPS Stockport, Solutions SK, Stockport Homes and Pure Innovations; as well as other public sector organisations such as Stockport Sport’s Trust, Stockport College, Stockport NHS and Stockport PCT.
A wide range of opportunities and services were in demand, ranging from a handy person role through to large-scale commercial contracts.
The way local authorities buy goods and services can have a major impact on the local economy and Stockport Council and its partners are keen to make the most of this to support local business.
Councillor Dave Goddard, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “The third Meet the Buyer event has proved a great success. Since 2003 the percentage of the Council’s goods and services supplied locally has increased from 17% to 36%. And we are always looking at ways we can improve this even further.
“We are committed to supporting local businesses and boosting the local economy. Events like these give local companies the opportunity to meet key public sector buyers face to face and to ultimately bid for, and to win local contracts.”
Nic Cox, Managing Director, Solutions SK said: “We strive to work with local companies in all aspects of our business, this event opens up a number of opportunities for local companies.”
