Funding to boost roads in the borough

Stockport Council is investing £2m to address the deterioration on the highway network which has been caused due to the recent severe weather.

The funding, which is programmed to run throughout the forthcoming financial year, has been made available as part of the Stockport Boost campaign, which aims to streamline services and offer further value for money for residents.

The Council is currently preparing a programme to identify roads which are in need of surface repairs. The programme will identify the variety of treatments needed ranging from simple patch repairs to extensive resurfacing. By considering the repairs in this way, the Council can be confident of achieving a long term solution to the problems caused by the severe weather conditions.

Stuart Jackson, Service Director for the Environment said: “It is fantastic news that £2m has been identified to repair roads in Stockport that have been damaged by the recent severe weather.

“As part of the Stockport Boost campaign this funding will allow us to make significant improvements to the highway throughout the borough for the benefit of all road users.”
Stockport Council provides over 600 different services to local people and is responsible for maintaining and improving over 600 miles of roads and nearly 1000 miles of footpaths. For more information visit the Stockport Boost website www.stockport.gov.uk/boost
