School Cookery Competition

Solutions SK, Stockport Council’s wholly owned company, have launched a new cookery themed competition in the borough’s primary schools.

Solutions SK School Meals team are working on developing a new primary school menu for October. To celebrate the launch of the new menu they are offering children the chance to think of a recipe they like to cook and eat at home.

The team have enlisted the help of Assistant Head Chef, Ivor Naylor at The Midway to help them judge the competition. The cookery competition is also sponsored by The Midway.

The new school menu will keep many of the children’s favourite dishes, but the Schools Meals team are also looking to include some new healthy recipes suggested by children.

Nic Cox, Managing Director of Solutions SK, said: “Involving a professional chef is a great way to get children excited about cooking and demonstrates that our school cooks are also chefs in their own right. The competition gives us an insight into what the children like and dislike to eat and allows more healthy options to be added to the menu.”

Paul Treanor, Proprietor of The Midway, said: “Being asked to support the School Meals team is testament to the quality of our food and the reputation of The Midway.  We are looking forward to hearing some of the suggestions and working with the team at Solutions SK.”

To enter the cookery competition children should visit the competition page at www.myschoollunch.co.uk/stockport, alternatively they can submit paper entries and hand them to their school cook. The closing date is Friday 25th June.

The winner will receive a cookery book, a £50 voucher to use at The Midway and their recipe will feature on the new school menu from October.  Two runners up will also receive a cookery book and their meal will feature on the new school menu.
