Transport Services comprises of two business units Fleet Management and Passenger Transport.

Fleet Management is based at Enterprise House in Cheadle Heath and following major changes in the Transport Department, Stockport Council entered into a partnership arrangement with TransLinc Limited until 2011. TransLinc now supply all the Council's vehicles on contract hire and are responsible for the maintenance and administration of the fleet.

Fleet Management staff are responsible for managing the following services on behalf of the Council:

  • Driver services
  • Contract monitoring
  • Contract development
  • Technical and safety advice
  • The Computerised Fuel System
  • Vehicle wash

TransLinc occupy a workshop at Newby Road, Hazel Grove. This is where all vehicles, trailers and large items of plant are maintained. The services available at Newby Road include:

  • Fleet management
  • Vehicle and plant maintenance
  • Vehicle insurance and accident management
  • Road fund licences
  • Driving assessments
  • MOT station
  • Taxi testing
  • Mini bus permit checks
  • 24 Hour breakdown

Passenger Transport is based at Newby Road, Hazel Grove. The work that the service provides is commissioned from the Council's Adults & Communities Directorate for adults with mobility difficulties and special needs who meet the eligibility criteria, or from the Children's & Young People's Directorate for children going to special schools.

Passenger Transport staff are responsible for managing the following services:

  • Adults attending Day Care and Residential Services
  • Children with Special Educational Needs to school
  • Intermediate Care for Adults (to alleviate hospital bed blocking)
  • Children's Social Care Transport
  • Post 16 Transport
  • School swimming transport
  • The Domiciliary Laundry Service
  • Advice And information regarding Special Needs Transport

Passenger Transport has the necessary expertise to advise and inform on all aspects of:

  • Minibus permits (Section 19)
  • MiDAS training
  • Disability awareness training for taxi contractors or any other provider of specialist transport
  • Training, with regards to wheelchairs and wheelchair restraints, can be provided and will comply with all Health and Safety Legislation and manufacturers requirements
